About Mimi

I am an experienced therapist, having been in private practice for 25 years after practicing for 10 years in the Psychiatry Department at MGH.

A good therapist-client fit is crucial for a successful, and enjoyable therapy, so developing a flexible, resilient relationship as we start is primary.

I am interested, empathetic, and communicative, and sometimes very humorous and fun. I listen well, make sure I understand, invite clarification if I don't 'get it,' and think therapy should, for the most part, feel both useful and pleasant.

I combine psychodynamic and behavioral approaches --

psychodynamic to help people understand why they react, feel, and behave in certain ways, and                                                                                     behavioral to then use that understanding to change automatic reactions, old behaviors and no-longer-useful ways of seeing themselves and connecting to others.

Educational and Professional Background:

After graduating from Simmons College Graduate School of Social Work, I started my career in the Psychiatry Department at Mass General.

The first three years there I worked with families, particularly parents, who were managing the normal (and sometimes extraordinary) challlenges of parenthood.

I then went on to joining of three additional clinical teams at MGH -- Psychopharmacology, Adoption, and Eating Disorders.

Since leaving MGH in 1993, I have been in private practice, and have worked closely with physicians, nutritionists, and other health care providers, as well as the Newton Wellesley Hospital EAP and has given many talks to the community and medical professionals about various aspect of mental health.
